In 2012, The MEEA embarked upon a National Public Awareness campaign ‘My Energy, My Responsibility’ to sensitize the public about the energy sector, promote energy efficiency and introduce the concept of renewable energy in three phases:
- Phase 1: My Energy: From where does it come?
- Phase 2: Energy Efficiency begins with me
- Phase 3: Renewable Energy: Share the Power of Nature
This program is being undertaken through a series of Public Service Announcements/Advertisements (TV & Radio) and newspaper columns endorsed by the MEEA; outreach activities in schools and display booths at national events and conferences. An interactive website, www.myenergytt.com has been launched to further promote the campaign.
The MEEA has already partnered with National Energy (NE) to present the campaign to seven (7) schools in their fence-line communities of La Brea, Rousillac, Mayaro and Guayaguayare.
The campaign is currently in its second phase and as such, the MEEA has embarked on a Light Bulb Exchange Initiative in various communities which aims to promote the use of more efficient Compact Fluorescent Light-bulbs (CFLs) and demonstrate its benefits compared to conventional incandescent bulbs.
